Proper protective equipment is a must (especially while pregnant!)
Here is the before picture- I had planned on refinishing that rocker as well but it just turned out to be too much work. 6 layers of lacquer is damn near impossible to remove. =/
I started planning out the colors based on this cute fabric I found at Hawthornethreads.com. Its an amazing fabric site because it has entire matching collections to choose from and even a tool that lets you find a fabric in another collection with the same colors! How cool!
This is me being OCD, planning out the entire set before I bought the fabric. =)
Fabric arrived! Squeee!
Took an old dresser that used to be my dads. It was ugly as sin, but a piece of furniture my beloved Granny gave me so I couldn't part with it. Sanded the whole thing down and antiqued it using black spray paint, sand paper and finishing spray.
It doesn't look like much here, buuuuut......
The finished product was gorgeous with a few decorative knobs! (Don't mind my over run garage! Men!)
I found this piece on craigslist. I needed a low dresser I could turn into a changing table. I don't have pictures, but the door on the side was made into a mini closet (for mini clothes) by installing a dowel rod. Awesome, huh??
Onto the room itself! I painted three walls a light (silver) grey. Its barely noticeable in pictures. (I had great help- my 10 year old daughter!)
And one wall in a dusky lilac color. I didn't want anything too purple. I wanted it to be classy, something she can grow into.
Stenciling. One picture does not do the process justice. This was a verrry tedious process. I used the same color as the other three walls to stencil.
Finished!!
I painted some clearance picture frames and framed these beautiful xrayed flower pictures I found at Hobby Lobby. If you didn't notice, I put the black handles on upside down so I didn't paint the screws.
New light and old dresser. A couple cheap accessories to pretty it up a bit. There is a frame I need to hang behind the reading light, and I want to add a table skirt to the light table itself.
The crib. Not shown: Quilt and dust ruffle. They're on now, but I don't have a picture. Another picture framed by a cheap finished (by me) wood frame.
Closeup of crib set. Its a crappy cellphone picture (little did I know I'd be blogging about this, sorry) but hopefully you can see the details. I believe the collection is called "Sew Chick" by Benartex. They had run out of the matching green/yellow for the piping/ties, so I used the color match tool on Hawthornethreads.com to find a matching replacement! Awesome!
So there you have it! I wish I had more pictures of the process, but I've been so excited about how it turned out, I wanted to show the world! I did purchase a new glider for next to that reading lamp since the rocker didn't exactly turn out, but that was the only expensive buy! I know I don't have curtains yet (and still don't), but I can't decide if I want a lace, a coordinating Sew Chick fabric, or just go with blinds. Suggestions are welcome!!
